God’s Words Immortal Bible Study for the Word “Immortal” or “Immortality” Passage #1 Lesson 2
Heaven and Earth
In the first segment of this study our concentration was on the phrase “Heaven and Earth Will Pass Away”. The primary focus of the next few segments will shift from the heavens to earth.
As has been my usual first step in research I searched for keywords or I should say the key word “earth. From Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 21:24, the word “Earth” yielded 733 passages. What a lengthy study that would be!
I have wanted to present a study called “Alpha and Omega” from the first day I started this blog. I do want to launch that study as time permits. It will consist of Genesis, our “Alpha” or beginning and Revelation our “Omega”or end.
Today and in the next few posts a “miny dose” of that study will, with the help of God and the Holy Spirit, be my focus. It seems fitting to consider the beginning three verses of Genesis, the middle four verses of Psalms and the last three verses of Revelation.
The theme verses for this second segment will be the first three verses with reference to the keyword “earth” from Genesis, entitled “Beginning”.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The footnote in my NIV Study bible makes the statement that the Bible always assumes and never argues the existence of God who had no beginning but has always been.
John 1:1-10 dealing with Christ and his involvement with creation, opens with the same phrase. The old testament Hebrew verb for create is used only of divine, never of human activity.
Isaiah 44:24 expresses creation beautifully as follows:
“This is what the Lord says your redeemer who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens by myself,…
Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the Waters.
Formless and empty (void, without form)
Jeremiah 4:23-27; Isaiah 24:1; Isaiah 45:18 Clearly indicate that the earth had under gone a cataclysmic change as the result of divine Judgement. The face of the earth bears everywhere the marks of such a catastrophe. Patterns which indicate a previous testing and fall of angles are readily apparent.
…Jeremiah 4:27 This is what the Lord says: “The whole land will be ruined, though I will not destroy it Completely”…Isaiah 24:1 See the Lord is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants-…Isaiah 45:18 For this is what the Lord says-he who created the heavens,he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but he formed it to be inhabited-he says I am the Lord and there is no other. To get a clear message of the expulsion of Satan from heaven read Ezekiel 28:11-19 and Isaiah 14:9-23.
Genesis 1:3 and God said, “let there be light,” and there was light.
Neither here nor in verses 14-18 is an original creative act implied.
A different word is used. The sense is, made to appear; made visible. The sun and moon were created “in the beginning.” The “light” of course came from the sun, but the vapor diffused the light. Later the sun appeared in an unclouded sky.
